Teaching Origami

WHY IS LINEAGE IMPORTANT?

Some people are taught in lineages and others are not.  It is not essential to be in, or learn from someone in a lineage school, but it is important to be honest about it if you have, or have not.  There are many talented instructors teaching great material who have learnt from different people and have pieced together their own version of an art.

Belonging to a lineage which can be traced back decades, hundreds, or even thousands of years is essential if you claim that you have particular knowledge, claim to have particular skills imparted to you, or claim to represent a certain school or family.  Like having attended and been educated by a highly thought of academic institution, having learnt your skills from a lineage school usually indicates that you have been well educated to very high standard, which is why people like to make claims.

If someone currently claims they are from a lineage, they should have no problem telling you who their main teacher(s) are/were in the lineage, who their teacher's teachers were, the years they spent learning with them, their fellow students' names and be able to provide you with proof in the form of photos, certificates or mentions in documents proving that they are currently regarded as a representative.  If they cannot provide any of this proof, then they most probably do not belong to the lineage they claim to be associated to, which is like lying about which University you studied in and the qualifications you have to your name.

Some claim to belong to a lineage because it sounds good and they don't know what it means, some claim it because they are being deceptive and want to sound more authentic than they actually are.  This second group of people are often mediocre practitioners trying to fool people who do not know any better and hide their lack of real knowledge and skill, which may lead to safety concerns during training and at the very least just poor quality of teachings.  Unfortunately there are many of this second group around teaching, so be careful to learn from a reputable school/teacher and don't be afraid to look into their claimed background.

Below are details of the schools and lineages I belong to for the arts I currently teach and represent.

I received my 7th Dan in 2017 from the International Wuzuquan Association in China.

Shizu Ye Neo was the sister of Shizu Lin Xian who went to great lengths to teach Shizu Chee the "soft" and "internal" aspects of the system, thereby completing Shizu Chee's education of Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan.

The Abbot taught the soft art of Wujiquan and other arts and skills every day over a three year period.
